Christmas Island Juan

Unfortunately if you’ve spent time stalking bonefish on the flats, you know that skinny, clear water and an overhead sun angle can really put a pack of bones on edge. Furthermore, the last thing these fish want to see is a parade float with a hook on it. There is no better way to spook a bonefish than with a heavily weighted and overdressed fly. When the situation calls for an accurate, delicate presentation, look no further than the Christmas Island Special. We will continue to post variations on this timeless classic, but this week we’ll focus on a variant that has fooled picky bones around the globe. The sparsely dressed body, combined with a little flash and finished off with a strand of Ultra Chenille should be a staple in any flats box.
